The 2022-2025 Strategic Plan for the Town of White City (the Town) was adopted by White City Town Council (Council) on February 7, 2022. As part of the Diverse, Inclusive & Engaged Community Strategic Focus Area, two objectives were identified specifically related to the business communications of the municipality:

  1. enhance communications with the public by being fully transparent and have residents informed of the town’s plans, actions, policies and services; and
  2. increase public engagement opportunities for residents.

Specifically, under the objective to enhance communications with the public, the Town’s strategic action plan identifies the development of a Communications Strategy to support two-way communications between residents and the Town.

The purpose of a Communications Strategy is two-fold. First, to provide the organization with an opportunity to evaluate its current communications. Second, to set the direction for strategic business communications to implement its vision as set out in the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan.

Since 2017 the Town has made considerable progress expanding internal and external communications. Despite significant progress, there are still considerable gaps in the Town’s communications. The development of a long-term Communications Strategy will accomplish several objectives, including:

  1. Identifying current communications shortfalls or gaps.
  2. Encourage a culture of proactive communications.
  3. Increase municipal transparency and adoption of municipal values within communications.
  4. Improve access to information for residents, Council and staff.
  5. Improve communication flow and coordination.

The Communication Strategy drafted as a result of resident, Council and staff feedback is intended to be ambitious in identifying activities that may be beyond the current resource levels of the municipality but need to be identified to ensure a comprehensive approach.

Public engagement of residents, administrative staff and Council will frame the development of guiding principles, objectives and actions to be contained in the Communications Strategy. The intended result is a Communications Strategy that integrates feedback from the community, staff and Council.

The engagement for this project will facilitate dialogue and feedback from the community and stakeholders so that administration and Council may consider these insights and preferences in their decision making.

Our Engagement Goal:

By the end of March 2022, White City residents, administration and Council will have had the opportunity to participate in a meaningful process that will have listened to, learned from and documented preferences related to how business communications are conducted by the Town of White City. This feedback will shape the town’s long-term Communications Strategy including vision, mission, goals and tactics for adoption by Council.
